I have no idea why I cannot find this on Innisfree Malaysia's official website. Only the calming and refreshing ones are available on the website. Nonetheless, here it is my thought on this recent addition to Innisfree's hair care line. I always love Innisfree products, having tried out at least 100 over Innisfree products, but frankly speaking I have not tried out one of their hair shampoos. But this latest My Hair Recipe line (with the brown packaging for scalp care) really caught my attention so I quickly bought one home after I finished my Lador Triple 3x Natural Shampoo.
It is hard for me to compare this to my other anti-dandruff shampoo because my dandruff problem is nearly cured after I used the Nizora Anti-Dandruff Shampoo I bought from the pharmacy.
I didn't want to return to other over-the-counter shampoos since my scalp is still quite sensitive and I don't want to risk having all the flakiness back again so I am sticking to this shampoo. Below are my thoughts after using the shampoo for a good 3 months now.
Innisfree My Hair Recipe Anti Dandruff Shampoo for Dandruff Scalp is a product under the Innisfree's scalp care line. All shampoos with the brown packaging are meant for scalp caring purposes so you can tell that they are especially gentle on your scalp. The texture is also lighter and easier for rinsing.
The product is made of mainly jeju pine, perilla trees, lavender, and centella asiatica, to deep cleanse and gently exfoliate the scalp for a trouble-free and fresher scalp.
As you can see, the product comes in a gel form that can be lathered into soft bubbles. This will make rinsing off easier than cream-type shampoo, thus will not leave behind a lot of chemicals or residues after shampooing. Most people do not wash their shampoo thoroughly enough, hence they are left with many scalp problems, but this shampoo will reduce your chances of getting to that. The shampoo also feels cooling and refreshing on the scalp, making it perfect for summer time and oilier scalp.
INGREDIENTS
Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauryl Hydroxysultaine, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Orchid Extract, Cinnamonium Camphora Leaf Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Camellia Japonica Leaf Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia Extract, Lippia Citriodora Leaf Extract, Althaea Officinalis Root Extract, Malt Extract, Opuntia Coccinellifera Fruit Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Cryptomeria Japonica Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Acorus Calamus Root Extract, Pinus Pinaster Bark/Bud Extract, Chamaecyparis Obtusa Water, Glycerin, Disodium EDTA, Laureth-2, Lauric Acid, Myristic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Cetyl Alcohol, Cellulose Gum, Sodium Salicylate, Sodium Citrate, Sodium chloride, Sodium Polynaphthalenesulfonate, Citric Acid, Alcohol, Zinc Pyrithione, Capric Acid, Cocamide MEA, Trihydroxystearin, PPG-3 Caprylyl Ether, PPG-7, Sodium Benzoate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Cprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance
This shampoo uses SLS, a foaming agent that might cause skin irritation, but fortunately this formula, with natural surfactant derived from palm, doesn’t feel harsh on my scalp. Rather, the whole formulation feels really gentle and non-burdening when applied.
The key ingredients here are jeju pine, cedar, and cypress (phytoncide complex) that helps to relieve stress buildup on your scalp and making it healthier over time. This shampoo also utilizes its unique “anti-dandruff complex”, lavender extract and centella asiatica extract to keep your scalp fresh and calm. A majority of the ingredients here like althaea flower extract, aloe vera leaf extract and so on are anti-inflammatory ingredients too to soothe the scalp.
The overall formula has a close resemblance to a normal foaming cleanser. Nothing particularly alarming in my opinion. Besides, what matters is the texture and application of the product, not really the ingredients list, as different laboratory may produce different stuffs even though the ingredients are the same.
PERFORMANCE
This shampoo has a pH around 4.0 (my tap water has a pH of 6.0-6.5) |
My scalp condition becomes stabler after committing into this shampoo. In fact, my dandruff has stopped coming back. It still throws temper once in a while, but I don't get that crazy itchy reaction ever since I am using this. But this is mostly attributable to Nizoral that cures my fungal infection too, so I won't compare this to other anti-dandruff shampoos that I use. I would say that if you have itchy and dandruff scalp, it is best that you either consult a physician, or buy the Nizoral shampoo, then stick to a gentle mildly exfoliating shampoo like this Innisfree one, for long-term improvement.
CONCLUSION
I am 60% down the bottle after a good 3 months on it so this shampoo can last you roughly 5-6 months using it 5-7 times a week. I don't wash my hair twice a day as it dries out my scalp greatly. RM45 for 6 months equates RM7.50 per month, which is a fair count for your money. Sometimes, you can get it for cheaper buying it from Gmarket, Testerkorea or Qoo10. This shampoo, with its gentle botanical formulation and easy-to-rinse texture, makes it a perfect shampoo for those with sensitive and flaky scalp, as it does not burden your scalp. A definite repurchase.
